When you wrote, "From the beginning of my daughter's care, there has been, on behalf of the care system, very restrictive limitations on the access to and amount of treatment available to assist her in recovery from her disease." I completely agree but people keep telling me that this system is all we have. I understand that but if this illness causes lack of insight, then why aren't there more programs in place that would allow our loved ones to work towards recovery? We are having a tough time getting my bro a long term hospital stay. When my bro was 100% psychotic, the hospital turned him away because he popped a pill in his mouth. My parents pleaded with the hospital to take him in but they refused. This is an area I want to campaign for change. Anyway, thanks for the post!

AmberO B S E S S I V I S I O Nhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18343653860296384235noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3152200596056636169.post-62471383245269324382008-08-05T15:24:00.000-07:002008-08-05T15:24:00.000-07:00The research that I have seen lists ranges of prob...The research that I have seen lists ranges of probability from 1 in 147 births for young fathers to 1 in 47 births at the oldest father's ages. Age is certainly a factor, with nearly three times the risk. It does give some additional mild support to genetic causes. Yet another reason to forego later life stage births ages for fathers. I am not quite so sure as to call it a major cause, but it would give me reason to question if I wanted to subject any potential offspring to increased risks.

Thanks for your comment.Advocate 366https://www.blogger.com/profile/10246453220236064425noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3152200596056636169.post-9874128832093818362008-08-03T20:32:00.000-07:002008-08-03T20:32:00.000-07:00One of the major causes of schizophrenia that is n...One of the major causes of schizophrenia that is not widely known but is repeatedly found in studies is older paternal age.
http://www.schizophreniaforum.org/for/curr/Malaspina/default.aspconcerned hearthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14987948292416367555noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3152200596056636169.post-39604309004173968822008-07-27T18:08:00.000-07:002008-07-27T18:08:00.000-07:00I am intrigued by Dr. Amen's use of brain imagery ...I am intrigued by Dr. Amen's use of brain imagery to try to locate areas of the brain that cause psychopathology. The fact is that the DSM IV does not allow for shades of gray. As a result, it's a question of trial and error when a psychiatrist has you go on a particular med or combination of meds.

Seeing what is going on in the brain and localizing the exact nature of the problem seem very promising. People won't have to experiment for several years before finding the right meds that address the problem in the brain.Diane Magotohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03647990498035482165noreply@blogger.com
